How We Met

Stephanie graduated Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in May 2009. Earlier that spring, She learned that she had been awarded a scholarship to attend Pilchuck Glass School, in Stanwood, Washington, to learn neon bending and would attend the workshop in June . She had never worked with glass, but was enthusiastic about it!

John, on the other hand, was a seasoned veteran at Pilchuck. He had attended the program as a teaching assistant twice before and this time would be returning as a gaffer.
The rest of the story is like this: love at first sight. That's honestly what it was. To this day, Stephanie asks John to tell her the story of when they first saw each other. Stephanie was coming out of the neon shop and John was walking from the lunch hall to his station, when they both looked up, smiled and followed each other with their heads until the other was out of sight.

A few days later, John worked up the courage to inquire about Stephanie's outfit that she had assembled for a costume party. She told him she was a bandit and pulled her plastic gun on him, he quickly snatched it out of her hand, twirled it around his finger and pointed it back at her. From that moment on, they spent the rest of their time at Pilchuck together.
